On the seventh day of Navratri, Goddess Kalaratri, the seventh avatar of NavaDurga is worshipped with much pomp and show. She is considered to be the most fearsome Goddess who eradicated all signs of evil and darkness from the universe.It is said that during the war with the demon that had spread devastation everywhere, Goddess Parvati was requested by the other Gods to protect the land. It’s then she took the form of Kalaratri Devi. She can be seen riding a black donkey and her complexion is dark black. She carried the Abhaya and Varada mudra in her right hand and a sword and an iron hook in her left hands. It is also said that she licked the blood of a demon, Rakta Beeja who could create more demons from his own blood. Her ferocious powers also earned her the name of Goddess Shubhankari.Worshipping the Goddess on the seventh day can bring good luck to her true devotees. Regular chanting of the Kalaratri mantra can remove all the fear from the heart and her blessings can make the people bold and self-confident. Goddess Kalaratri also bestows peace and a protective shield for her devotees. Puja Vidhi for the day: Devotees, on the seventh day, remember the mother Kalratri after bathing and offer incense sticks, flowers and jaggery to her. Maa Kalratri's favourite flower is Ratrani, so, a garland of this flower is prepared specially for this Devi. After this, everyone chants the mantras of Maa Kalratri and finally perform the Aarti of the day. Mantra for the day: Ekweni japakarnapura nagna kharasthita, Lamboshti karnikakarni Tailabhyaktashariri. Vamapadolla Sallohlata Kantaka Bhushana, Vardhanmurdhdhwaja Krishna Kalrataribharykari.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to wish devotees on the occasion of Mahasaptami, the seventh day of Navratri. He wrote, "Navratri ke Mahasaptami par Devi Durga ke saatwe swarup Ma Kaalratri ke stuti ka vidhaan hota hai. Meri kaamna hai ki nakaaratmak shaktio ki sangharak Ma Kaalratri sabko bhaymukt kare ( On Mahasaptami of Navratri, Goddess Durga's seventh avatar Ma Kaalratri is worshipped. May Ma Kaalratri, the slayer of all negativity keep us all fear free)."
PM Modi also extended his greetings on the occasion of Mahashashti, which marks the beginning of Durga Puja. In his speech, PM Modi also highlighted the importance of "nari shakti" (woman power), while urging people to follow safety precautions for COVID-19 while celebrating the festival this year.
In an earlier tweet, PM Modi talked about how Durga Puja signifies the victory of good over evil. "Durga Puja is an auspicious occasion, which celebrates the victory of good over evil. We pray to Maa Durga to bless us with strength, happiness and good health."
He also wished people celebrating Navaratri during this occasion. "Navratri ke shashthi par Ma Katyayani ki upaasana ki jaati hai. Meri kaamna hai ki Mata Katyayani aap sabhi ko sadaa nirog rakhe aur ujwal bhawishya pradaan kare (On the sixth day of Navaratri, Goddess Katyayani is worshipped. I pray that Goddess Katyayani keeps you all disease-free and grant you a bright future)."

The nine-day festival of Navratri dedicated to Goddess Durga began on October 17, 2020. Each day of Navaratri is dedicated to an avatar of Goddess Durga.
On Panchami or Day 5, when Goddess Durga's fifth avatar Skandamata is worshipped, PM Modi tweeted, "Navratri mein aaj Devi Dugra ke pancham swarup Ma Skandmata ki aaradhna ka din hai. Meri kaamna hai ki navchetna ka sujan karne wali Devi Skandamata ka aashirvaad deshvasiyon par sada bana rahe (On Navratri, it is the day of worshipping Goddess Durga's fifth avatar Ma Skandamata. I pray that the creator of new life and energy, Goddess Skandamata's blessings are with all citizens.
On Chaturthi or Day 4, Goddess Kushmanda is worshipped. "Navratri mein aaj Ma Durga ke chaturth swarup Devi Kushmanda ke bandan ka din hai. Ma Kushmanda har kisi ke jeevan mein sukh, samriddhi aur saubhagya lekar aaye (On Navratri, it is the day of worshipping Goddess Kushmanda. May Goddess Kushmanda bring happiness, prosperity and good luck to all)," he wrote.
On the third day, Goddess Chandraghanta, whose forehead is adorned with a half-moon, is worshipped. "Navratri mein aaj Devi Durga ke teesre swarup Ma Chandraghnta ki puja aur aaradhna ka din hai. Meri kaamna hai ki Mata Chandraghanta sabhi ke jeevan mein saahas aur shakti ka sanchar kare (On the third day of Navratri, Goddess Durga's third avatar Ma Chandraghanta is worshipped. I pray that Goddess Chandrghanta bestows courage ad strength to all)," PM Modi wrote on Twitter.
On Day 2, he wrote, "We bow to you, Maa Brahmacharini. Bless us with kindness and compassion. From you, we derive strength to spread joy and serve our society."
"Pranams to Maa Shailputri on Day 1 of Navratri. With her blessings, may our planet be safe, healthy and prosperous. May her blessings give us strength to bring a positive change in the lives of the poor and downtrodden," PM Modi had tweeted on the first day of Navratri or Pratipad.

Today marks the 7th day of Navratri 2020 and the day is dedicated to Maa Kalaratri. During Navratri, the nine avatars of Maa Durga or Navdurga are worshipped. The puja of Kalaratri is done on Saptami. Shardiya Navratri is the most auspicious time of the year for Hindus. People across the country look forward to Navratri and Durga Puja. Kalaratri Mata is considered as the fiercest form of Maa Durga or Goddess Parvati. Her name has two words: Kal meaning time and Ratri or night. Kalaratri is considered to be the destroyer of darkness and evil. According to scriptures, Parvati came to be known as Kalaratri Mata after she shed her golden skin to kill two demons, Shumbha and Nishumbha. Kalratri is also known as Goddess Kali, another avatar of Shakti.
Maa Kalaratri Puja Vidhi: Steps to follow
Before starting Maa Kalratri Puja, family members sit together near the Kalash or the seat of Goddess Durga which was established on the first day of Navratri.

First, worship of the Kalash is done with flowers
Next mantras of Kalaratri Puja are recited with a night blooming flower - preferably jasmine. Hibiscus flowers are also used.
Kalratri Mata is offered gur or jaggery and water as bhog. Many devotees also keep sweets and fruits along with it.
After puja, aarti is done and the prasad is distributed among family and friends

नवरात्र में देवी के नौ रूपों की पूजा की परंपरा है। मार्कंडेय पुराण में शैलपुत्री से लेकर सिद्धिदात्री तक 9 देवियां बताई गई हैं। नवरात्र में इन देवियों की विशेष पूजा करने से हर तरह की तकलीफ और दुख दूर हो जाते हैं। काशी के पं. गणेश मिश्र बताते हैं कि हर देवी का नाम उनके खास रूप के मुताबिक है और देवी का रूप उनकी शक्ति के हिसाब से है। इसलिए नवरात्र में हर देवी की पूजा के लिए एक दिन तय किया है। जिससे हर देवी की विशेष पूजा का अलग फल मिलता है।
पं. मिश्र बताते हैं कि देवी शैलपुत्री की पूजा से शक्ति मिलती हैं। वहीं, ब्रह्मचारिणी देवी की पूजा से प्रसिद्धि, चंद्रघंटा की पूजा से एकाग्रता, कुष्मांडा से दया, स्कंदमाता से सफलता और कात्यायनी देवी की पूजा से कामकाज में आ रही रुकावटें दूर होती हैं। इनके साथ ही देवी कालरात्रि की पूजा से दुश्मनों पर जीत, महागौरी से तरक्की, सुख, एश्वर्य और सिद्धिदात्री देवी की पूजा करने से मनोकामनाएं पूरी होती हैं।
मार्कंडेय पुराण में नौ देवियों का श्लोक प्रथमं शैलपुत्री च द्वि��ीयं ब्रह्मचारिणी। तृतीयं चन्द्रघण्टेति कूष्माण्डेति चतुर्थकम्।। पंचमं स्कन्दमातेति षष्ठं कात्यायनीति च। सप्तमं कालरात्रि महागौरीति चाष्टमम्।। नवमं सिद्धिदात्री च नवदुर्गाः प्रकीर्तिताः। उक्तान्येतानि नामानि ब्रह्मणैव महात्मना।।
देवी शैलपुत्री: मां दुर्गा का प्रथम रूप शैलपुत्री के नाम से प्रसिद्ध है। इन्होंने पर्वतराज श्री हिमालय के यहां जन्म लिया। इसलिए इनका नाम शैलपुत्री हुआ। इनका वाहन वृषभ यानी बैल है, इन्होंने दाएं हाथ में त्रिशूल और बाएं हाथ में पद्म यानी कमल धारण किया हुआ है।
देवी ब्रह्मचारिणी: मां दुर्गा के दूसरे रूप में देवी ब्रह्मचारिणी की पूजा की जाती है। मार्कंडेय पुराण के मुताबिक इन्होंने कई सालों तक कठिन तप और अपनी शक्तियों से राक्षसों को खत्म किया। ये देवी कृपा और दया की मूर्ति हैं। इनके दाएं हाथ में माला तथा बाएं हाथ में कमण्डल रहता है।
देवी चंद्रघण्टा: मां शक्ति के तीसरे स्वरूप को चंद्रघण्टा के नाम से जाना जाता है। ये देवी अपने भक्तों को अभय वरदान देने वाली तथा परम कल्याणकारी हैं। ये दुष्ट शक्तियों को नष्ट कर धर्म की रक्षा करती हैं। इनके मस्तक पर घण्टे के रूप में आधा चंद्रमा है। ये चंद्रघण्टा के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हैं। ये अपने दस हाथों में खड्ग आदि अ��्त्रों को धारण किए हुए हैं तथा सिंह पर सवार हैं। यह भयानक घण्टे की नाद मात्र से शत्रु और दैत्यों का वध करती हैं।
देवी कूष्माण्डा: दुर्गा जी के चौथे रूप में देवी कूष्माण्डा की पूजा की जाती है। ये सूर्य लोक की वासी हैं और इनका तेज बहुत ज्यादा है। अखिल ब्रह्मांड की जननी होने के कारण इन्हें कूष्माण्डा कहा जाता है। इनकी आठ भुजाएं हैं। जिनमें भक्तों की रक्षा के लिए कमण्डल, धनुष, बाण, कमल, पुष्प, अमृत कलश, चक्र और गदा हैं। इनकी सवारी शेर है और ये अपने भक्तों के शत्रु, रोग, दुःख और डर को दूर करती हैं।
देवी स्कन्दमाता: देवी जगदंबा का पांचवां रूप स्कन्दमाता है। ये भगवान कार्तिकेय यानी स्कन्द की माता हैं। ये दाएं हाथ की नीचे वाली भुजा में भगवान स्कन्द को गोद लिए हुए हैं। इनके हाथों में कमल का फूल है और ये वरदान देने वाली मुद्रा में हैं और भक्तों को मनचाहा फल देती हैं।
देवी कात्यायनी: देवी दुर्गा का छठा रूप कात्यायनी है। ये महिषासुर का मर्दन करनी वाली हैं। ये रुप त्रिदेवों यानी ब्रह्म, विष्णु और शिवजी के अंश से प्रकट हुआ है। देवी कात्यायनी की पूजा सबसे पहले महर्षि कात्यायन ने की, तब से ये कात्यायनी नाम से प्रसिद्ध हैं। इनकी चार भुजाएं हैं। इनके हाथ अभय मुद्रा और वरमुद्रा में हैं। इनकी भुजाओं में तलवार और कमल के फूल हैं। इनकी सवारी शेर है और ये अपने भक्तों को धर्म, अर्थ, काम और मोक्ष देती हैं।
देवी कालरात्रि: देवी कालरात्रि मां भगवती का सातवां रूप है। भक्तों की रक्षा के लिए देवी दुर्गा भयानक कालरात्रि रूप प्रकट में हुईं। इनकी चार भुजाएं और तीन आंखें हैं। इनका रंग काला है। ये भयंकर और उग्र रूप लिए हैं। इनकी नाक से आग की लपटें निकलती हैं। ये गधे की सवारी करती हैं। इनकी पूजा करने से हर तरह के दुख दूर होते हैं।
देवी महागौरी: मां शक्ति के आठवें रूप की पूजा महागौरी के रूप में होती है। ये चंद्रमा और कुन्द के फूल की तरह गौरी हैं। इसी कारण इन्हें महागौरी कहा जाता है। इनकी चार भुजाएं हैं। इनकी सवारी बैल है। ये अभयमुद्रा, वरमुद्रा, त्रिशूल और डमरू को अपने हाथों में धारण किए हुए हैं। इन्होंने कठिन तप से भगवान शंकर को प्राप्त किया था। इनकी पूजा से मनोवांछित फल मिलते हैं।
देवी सिद्धिदात्री: जगदंबा दुर्गा का नौवां स्वरूप देवी सिद्धिदात्री है। ये सभी सिद्धियों को देने वाली हैं। देवी सिद्धिदात्री चार भुजाओं वाली हैं। ये कमल के आसन पर विराजित हैं और अपने हाथों मे चक्र, गदा, शंख, ��र कमल लिए हुए हैं। यह सर्वसिद्धि देने वाली और दुखों को दूर करने वाली हैं।

The festival, which marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year as per the Luni-solar calendar, falls in the month of Chaitra, the first month of lunar calendar.
Chaitra Navratri is celebrated for nine days, where each day is dedicated to a different avatar of goddess Durga. It begins with with worshipping Mata Shailputri. The nine forms of Goddess Durga are Shailputri, Brahmacharini, Chandharghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalratri, Mahagauri and Siddhidatri.
Each day is also associated with a different colour, and it is believed that wearing those colours brings good luck.
On the first day of this Hindu festival, people observe fast and offer their prayers to the goddess. Goddess Shailputri is also known as the Pratipada. Goddess Parvati, after the self-immolation as Sati, was born as the daughter of Himalaya, the mountain. In Sanskrit, Shail means the mountain and, which is why he is also was known as Shailputri. The goddess in this form rides a bull, carrying a trishul (trident) in her right hand and lotus in the left.
During Chaitra Navratri people also perform Ghatasthapana, which is a significant ritual followed during the period, and marks the beginning of the festivities. Ghatasthapana is invocation of goddess Shakti. Navratri also celebrates calmness and peacefulness in the form of Maha Gauri Mata.

Worship Shailputri on First Day of Navratri : Shailputri is the name of form of Maa Durga when she incarnated as daughter of King of Mountains Himachal. Shail means mountain and putri means daughter. Her Luster is said equal to crores of moons, she rides on a Bull named Nandi, her head is adorned with half-moon, she has a trident in her one hand and varmudra in other hand. Mantra of worship of Shailputri Devi are : ( i ) Om Devi Shailputryai Namah (Do 108 recitation of this mantra) ( ii ) Vande Vanchhit Laabhaay, Chandrardhkritshekharaam | Vrisharudham Shooldharaam Shailputriim Yashaswinim || Which means, I worship Goddess Shailputri to fulfill my wishes, who is adorned with half moon on her head, rides on a bull, carry a trident and is illustrious. 2. Worship Brahmcharini on Second Day of Navratri : Brahmcharini is form of Maa Durga when she was incarnated as the daughter of King Daksh. Her name was sati in this incarnation and her unmarried form is worshipped as Brahmcharini Devi. She has rosary (Mala) and Kamandalu in her lotus hands. She gives eternal bliss by knowledge of Supreme Self (God). Mantra for worship of Devi Brahmcharini are : ( i ) Om Devi Brahmcharinyai Namah (Do 108 recitation of this mantra) ( ii ) Dadhaanaa Kar Padaabhyaamakshmala Kamandalu | Devi Prasidati Mayi Brahmcharinyanuttamaa. Which means, O Goddess Brahmcharini, who holds rosary and Kamandalu in her hands, please on me. Worship Chandraghanta on Third Day of Navratri : Chandraghanta is form of Maa Durga who rides on Tiger, holds a Gong (big bell) and adorned with half moon on head. Mantra for worship of Devi Chandraghanta is as follows : ( i ) Om Devi Chandraghantayayi Namah (Do 108 recitation of this mantra) ( ii ) Pindaj Pravaarudh chandkopastrkairyuta | Prasadam Tanute Madhyam Chandraghanteti vishrutaa || Which means, O Goddess Chandraghanta, who rides on Tiger, angry on enemies, holds many weapons in 10 hands, please on me.Devotees who have many enemies and obstacles in their life, should worship Devi Chandraghanta on third day of Navratri. Goddess Chandraghanta then destroy all obstacles and fears of devotee and destroy enemies and demons. 4. Worship Kushmanda on Fourth Day of Navratri : Kushmanda is the form of Goddess Durga which creates universe. Goddess Kushmanda rides on Lion, hold weapons in her seven hands, holds rosary in eighth hand. Mantra for worship of Goddess Kushmanda is : ( i ) Om Devi Kushmandayayi Namah (Do 108 recitation of this mantra) ( ii ) Suraasampoornam Kalasham Rudhiraaplutamev Cha | Dahdana Hastpadmaabhyaam Kushmanda Shubhdaastu Me || Which means, Goddess Kushmanda who holds two pitchers full of Madira and Blood in her lotus hands, be propitious to me. Goddess Kushmanda is Mother of Sun. She creates the entire universe and solar system. Devotees must worship her in order to get success in her creation. Devotees who has malefic Sun in their birth chart should worship Kushmanda Devi. 5. Worship Skandmata on Fifth Day of Navratri : Skandmata is the form of Goddess Durga when she take incarnation of Parvati and gave birth to Lord Skanda or Kartikeya. She is known by her sons name as Skandmata. Skandamata rides on Lion with six faced Kartikeya on her lap. Worship Katyayani on Sixth Day of Navratri : Katyayani is an incarnation of Goddess Durga, when Indian Rishi Katyayan meditate on Goddess to destroy demons. Goddess Durga incarnated in his home as his daughter, named Katyayani. According to Durga Saptshati, Goddess Katyayani is Mahasaraswati. Goddess Katyayani holds weapons in her 10 hands, rides on Lion, have three eyes and adorned with half moon on head. Worship Kalratri on Seventh Day of Navratri : Kalratri is incarnation of Goddess in which she removed her golden skin and became lustrous black colored. She is naked, rides on an ass, holds sword and Varmudra in two right hands, holds a torch and abhaya mudra in left two hands. She is the Master of Hypnotism. Kalratri Mantra for worship during Navratri is : ( i ) Om Devi Kalratryayi Swaha (Do 108 Recittaion of this Kalratri Mantra) ( ii ) Ekveni Japakarnpoora Nagn Kharaasthita | Lamboshthi Karnika karni Tailaabhyaktshariirini || Vaam Paadollasallohlata Kantakbhushanaa | Bardhan Moordham Dhwajaa Krishnaa Kalratribhayankari || This is the mantra to meditate on her. This mantra describes her form. She is naked, rides on ass, long lips, lustrous body, wearing ornaments in legs like lightning, black in color, unlocked hair, big eyes and ears and very dangerous looking. Meditating on this form of Kalratri removes all obstacles as well as removes all magical effects created by others. 8. Worship of Mahagauri on Eighth Day of Navratri : Mahagauri is the 16 years old form of unmarried Goddess Parvati. She rides on bull, holds trident and damru in two hands and have varamudra and abhayamudra in other two hands, wears pure white cloths, face is white like moon. Mantra for worship of Mahagauri during Navratri is : ( i ) Om Devi Mahagauryayi Namah (Do 108 Recitation of Mahagauri Mantra) ( ii ) Shwete Vrishesamarudha Shwetaambardhara Shuchih | Mahagari Shubham Dadyanmahadev Praodadaa || Which means, Goddess Mahagauri who rides on white bull, wear pure white clothes, giver of happiness, be propitious to me. 9. Worship of Siddhidatri on Ninth Day of Navratri : Siddhidatri is master of eight siddhis and nine nidhis. Siddhidatri is an incarnation of Maa Durga, when goddess Parvati enters in half body of Lord Shiva. Siddhidatri is Seated on Red Lotus and She also rides on Lion. She has Conch, Chakra, Lotus and Gada in her four hands, Dev, Humans, Brahmins, Demons, Kinnars are all worshipping her. Siddhidatri Mantra for worship during Navratri is : ( i ) Om Devi Siddhidatryayi Namah (Do 108 Recititation of Siddhidatri Mantra) ( ii ) Siddha Gandharva Yakshdyairasurairamarairapi | Sevyamaanaa Sadabhuyaat Siddhida Siddhidayini || Which means, Goddess Siddhidatri who is worshipped by Siddha, Gandharva, Yaksh, Gods, Demons etc., holds Conch, Chakra, Gada and Lotus in her hands, giver of all siddhis and victory all over, be propitious to me. Devotee must worship Goddess Siddhidatri on ninth day of Navratri because she gives the results of nine days worship. Note : On Eighth day you should give invitation to nine girls of age group of 5 to 12 for food on ninth day. On ninth day, prepare food for them. The special menu for this day is Halwa, Poori and Chana. Many people make Kadhi and Kheer also. Feed the girls with full of love and devotion considering them nine form of Goddess. After food, give them some dakshina, i.e. money, gifts, clothes etc. whatever you wish and with which these girls are pleased. This way you complete Nav Durga (Maa Durga) Puja on Navratri Festival. Recite Durga Saptashati During Navratri ________________________________________ During Navratri, read the holy book Durga Saptashati. Durga Saptashati is the glory of majesty of Mother Goddess Durga, which she expressed in battlefield. Goddess Durga herself said in Durga Saptashati that, she pleases equally with a devotee, who listen or remember her story of bravery in battlefield during Navratri and a devotee who do worship for the whole year with full methodology. Even she please with a devotee who worship her without knowing her method of worship. A devotee who recite Durga Saptashati considering her as mother, she removes all obstacles in life and also gives spiritual knowledge to become free from all bondages. On first day, do Ghat Sthapna at your home. Get the holy book Durga Saptshati and recite it's chapters daily for nine days. 8th day invite 1 to 9 girls as much as you can for ninth day.
